Creating and running events and markets
An event is a question as customers see it on a card. A Yes/No event has one market; a question with several possible answers has one market per outcome, grouped on the event's page, of which exactly one should resolve Yes.
Creating a market
Create market in the side nav (or the Dashboard's button). The form has three steps and a live preview of the card; the Create market button stays off until everything it needs is there, and says what is missing.
1. The question
- Question: 8 to 200 characters, written the way it will read on a card. "Will the CBN cut the MPR at its November 2026 meeting?"
- Type: Yes / No (one market) or Multiple outcomes (each outcome becomes its own Yes/No market). For multiple outcomes, name at least two and up to 30; two outcomes may not share a name.
- Description (optional, up to 2,000 characters): the context a trader needs.
2. Resolution
- Resolution rules (at least 20 characters, up to 4,000): what counts as Yes, exactly. Name the condition, the date, the threshold and the source. "Resolves Yes if the CBN announces a cut to the Monetary Policy Rate at the meeting ending 25 November 2026, per its official communiqué. Otherwise No." Traders read this before they buy, and disputes are judged against it.
- Resolution source (optional): the body whose publication decides it, such as Central Bank of Nigeria (cbn.gov.ng).
- Trading closes: a date and time in the future, in your local time. Trading stops by itself then and open orders are cancelled.
3. Listing
- Category, and an optional call sign (a country code shown on the card's plate instead of the category's glyph) and plate colour.
- Countries the question is listed for (none means everywhere), and up to ten tags.
- Renew automatically: for recurring questions, the interval at which the next edition opens once this one resolves (daily, weekly, every 30 days, yearly, every 2 or 4 years), or off.
- Featured (eligible for the home page lead) and Live (shows the on-air marker while it is happening).
Press Create market. It opens for trading at once, and you land on its event page.
From a customer's suggestion
On the Suggestions page, a suggestion's Create market button opens this form with the title, category, description, source and date filled in. Tidy the question and write the rules; creating the market marks the suggestion accepted and tells the customer. Turn down declines it with a note they see.
On chain
With trading from wallets on, a new market needs one transaction from Jua's operator (preparing its condition on the Conditional Tokens contract) before anyone can order from a wallet. It happens by itself within a minute or two; the trade panel says "This market is opening for trading from wallets" meanwhile.
The event page
Each event has a page with its outcomes (their price, status and open interest), the tools below, and the Languages panel (Listing translations).
- Edit the title and description.
- Outcome order: move outcomes up and down with the arrows.
- Add outcome to a multi-outcome event while it is open. It opens at an even share of the price.
- Featured: on or off.
- Trading across the event: switch trading off (or on) for every outcome at once. Use it the moment a result is known, such as the final whistle, so nobody trades on a settled question.
- Renew as next edition: opens the next edition (AFCON 2027 → AFCON 2029), keeping the outcomes and rules and moving years in the title and rules forward. The new edition starts with fresh prices and links to the earlier ones on the site. Renew automatically does the same by itself once an edition resolves.
- Pick the winner: for a multi-outcome event, the one-step resolution (Resolving and disputes).
- Cancel the whole event: every unresolved outcome settles at 50¢ (Cancelling a market).
The market page
Each market has a page with its Resolution panel (the lifecycle: Trading → Closed → Proposed → Resolved), Details you can edit, and Who is in this market: live tabs of Positions (every account's stake, value and P&L), Trades (every fill, both sides named) and, after resolution, Payouts.
Editing the details
Question, outcome label (multi-outcome events), description, rules, resolution source and the closing time can all be changed; Save changes confirms. Edits re-queue the listing for translation. Change rules with care once people have traded: traders bought on the rules as they stood.
The trading switch
Trading on / off at the top of the Resolution panel turns trading off without closing the market. Off is for the moment the answer is known, before the close, the result or the proposal, so nobody trades on a settled question. Resting orders stay and can be cancelled; nothing new is placed or matched; everyone holding a position is told, with the reason you give ("Result being confirmed" by default). Resolving the market, or switching back on, turns trading on again.
Closing and reopening
- Close trading ends trading before the closing time: no new orders are taken and every resting order is cancelled, its collateral returned. Afterwards, propose the outcome or reopen.
- Reopen trading (on a closed or proposed market) takes orders again until a new closing time you set. On a proposed market it withdraws the proposal and upholds open disputes.
Then: Resolving and disputes.
Statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Trading | Open; orders are matched. Trading off: open, but switched off by staff. |
| Closed | No trading; waiting for an outcome to be proposed, or to be reopened. |
| Proposed | An outcome is proposed; the dispute window is running. |
| Resolved | Settled: Yes, No, or Cancelled (every share at 50¢). |
Housekeeping closes a market when its closing time passes and finalises an undisputed proposal when its window ends, every minute, on its own.
