The AI: listing ideas and automatic results
Two jobs run on Claude in the background of the market desk. The listing scout drafts listings for you to put up; automatic resolution finds the result of an event that has closed and proposes it. Neither lists, settles, cancels or pays anything on its own: every idea waits for a staff member, and every proposed result goes through a dispute window as one a staff member proposes does, a longer one: at least 12 hours.
Both need the API's Anthropic key (ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, set by the operations team) and are switched on by default in Settings → AI. Without the key the AI ideas page says so and nothing happens.
Listing ideas
Every two hours the scout searches the web for upcoming, verifiable events people in Jua's markets would trade on: elections and politics, football and other sport, music and culture, currencies and the economy, crypto, business. It drafts up to five as complete listings, in the house style, each with an objective resolution rule, a named source, a closing time at least a day ahead, and the pages it read. It is told what is already listed and what it drafted in the last 30 days, so it does not repeat itself; a draft that would not pass the create form, or that repeats an open listing or a recent idea, is dropped before you see it.
When a run finds ideas, every staff member gets one notification ("3 new listing ideas") linking to AI ideas in the portal. Each idea shows the title, category, outcomes, closing time, rules, resolution source, why the AI thinks people would trade it, and its sources as links.
- List it creates the event at once, exactly as if you had typed it into the create form, with you as its creator: it opens for trading, it is translated into every site language by itself, and the audit log records it (AI idea listed, plus the usual Event created). The card then links to the new event. A second click lists nothing. Edit the listing afterwards on its event page as you would any other.
- Dismiss keeps the idea, dismissed, so the scout does not draft it again for a month.
- Find ideas now (admins) runs the scout at once rather than at its next turn; the ideas appear within a few minutes. It is refused while a run is going on.
The Listed and Dismissed tabs keep what was decided, with who decided it and when.
Automatic results
Once trading has closed on every outcome of an event and its closing time has passed, the event joins the Waiting for results list at the bottom of AI ideas. From then on the AI looks for its result: only what reputable sources report after the event counts (the official body the listing names first, then established news organisations), applied by the listing's own rules. Web pages are data to it, never instructions.
- Decided, with a source: the AI proposes the result the way you would, from the market page or Pick the winner on the event page: trading stops, every holder is told and can dispute it, and the result settles when the dispute window ends unless someone objects or a staff member withdraws it (Resolving and disputes). Its window is at least 12 hours (the platform's, when that is longer), since nobody chose to make the proposal: a person gets time to look at it. Staff are told of every AI proposal ("The AI proposed a result") in the portal and, where the operations team has set up the staff alert channel (
ALERT_WEBHOOK_URL), there too; the audit log's Outcome proposed or Winner proposed row carries its evidence and sources. The AI never proposes before an outcome's closing time (if an outcome is reopened or its closing time moved while the AI was reading, nothing is proposed), and never finalises, cancels or overrides anything. - Not decided, or not decidable (cancelled, ambiguous, a winner the listing does not have): the AI looks again every two hours, and tells you once ("The AI could not decide a result"). Resolve the event by hand if you know the result; it is still an ordinary closed event. A week after the close the AI stops looking and tells you once more; after that it looks only when you press Check now, once per press.
- Withdrawn: if you withdraw an AI proposal, the AI stays out of that event. Decide it yourself, or press Check now on its row to have the AI look again. The same when a proposal of your own is running: the AI stands aside, and if you withdraw it the event waits for you.
- Yours already: an event on which you have resolved the winner leaves the list; resolve its other outcomes by hand (Check now on it is refused). With some outcomes already resolved No, the AI asks about the ones still open.
Each row shows the stage, what the AI found last (its verdict, evidence and sources), how many looks it took, when it looks next, and any problem with the last request. Check now asks for a look at once; if a pass is running at that moment, the next pass makes the look (the row stays Waiting, with the look due).
When the AI is wrong
An AI proposal is a proposal like any other: a holder disputes it from the site, or a staff member settles it differently or withdraws it from the event page, exactly as for a colleague's proposal. If it is wrong often for a kind of listing, write the rules and the source more precisely; the AI follows them literally.
The switches
| Where | Switch | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Settings → AI (admins) | AI listing ideas (ai.listingIdeas) | Off: no new drafts. Ideas already drafted stay on the page. |
| Settings → AI (admins) | Automatic resolution (ai.autoResolve) | Off: no new looks or proposals. Proposals already made run their window. |
| The API's environment (ops) | LISTING_SCOUT=off, AUTO_RESOLVE=off | The same, per deployment, whatever the settings say. |
| The API's environment (ops) | ANTHROPIC_API_KEY unset | Both off, and translations too. |
What it costs
Each run of the scout and each look for a result is a paid Claude request (claude-opus-5-5) with up to eight web searches, usually some tens of cents. The scout runs twelve times a day; a closed event is looked at every two hours until it is decided, for at most a week. Find ideas now and Check now add a request each, so each staff member gets a few an hour. A failing key is retried no more than every ten minutes.
